about

3 - See You at Dawn

The ocean was calm under the full moon after the final battle.
The reflection of the moonlight on the horizon looked like millions of golden leaves dancing quietly.

Veck sat alone on a rock, holding the remaining piece of Masumi’s mechanical brain. She had blown herself up during the battle to destroy the main connection of the artificial synaptic network.
The reign of Quantum 9 was weakened for now,but the casualties on his side were enormous. They were ready to build a new world without Xavda Technology that they’d been exploiting for too long, but many of the rebels never saw their dreams come true.

Veck was thinking about Masumi's shy smile when she swam in the ocean for the first time, just before they departed for the mission.
She had told him that the real Masumi was still alive somewhere in the universe, waiting to be united with her father and her brother.
Maybe it was true, or maybe it was just a delusion as she wanted so badly to be a part of a family saga that she’d never had.

Veck picked up a coconut shell on the shore, then he laid down Masumi's mechanical brain with flowers and small shells inside, and sent them off into the calm ocean.

As the coconut shell drifted away, Veck saw the darkness on the horizon brighten ever so slowly, as the DAWN - a poetic transition between night and day - started painting the sky into a dark purple, then rose pink, before delivering the breath-taking first ray of light.

See you soon, Veck mumbled.

The words were his promise to the two Masumis and to his father to continue their journey. A journey to craft a new way of living with the legacy they had left on Earth.
And he was sure that by pursuing his path, the law of the universe would eventually show him that their paths would cross again, beyond the reach of space and time...
